Transportation Wednesday, Jul 1 2009

Stu and I did some research on the best transportation options for those of you coming in from out of town, and we thought we’d share what we found here on the website. While the Best Western offers a shuttle service, there is a potential charge to use it and one needs to call ahead and let the hotel know when one would like to use the shuttle. The fee to use it is a little complicated- they told us that if a guest has a room at a discounted rate, the charge to use the shuttle would be the difference in the room charge. However, if one paid the full, non-discounted rate for the room, the shuttle would be free. Since most of the people staying at the hotel are staying in discounted rooms, Stu and I suggest using alternate transportation. We looks at the rates at a couple places, and we recommend booking a taxi through Portland Taxi, or if you prefer to pay a bit more and be very well taken care of, we can highly recommend using Oregon Towncar. Of course, if you are planning on doing some sight-seeing while here, we would suggest renting a car at the airport. As always, please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you!

Non-rehearsal Rehearsal dinner Tuesday, Jun 30 2009

Since Stu and I are not having a religious or especially detailed ceremony, we decided that we would do a casual “rehearsal dinner” and open it up to whomever wishes to attend. We will be getting together at the Power Station Pub at McMenamins Edgefield for pizza and beer on Friday (July 17) at 6:00 pm. We will likely be there for a couple of hours, so stop by, have a slice and a beer and hang out for a bit! Everyone is welcome. Hope we see you there!

Hotel info Tuesday, Jun 16 2009

This is just to let everyone know that if you have not booked a hotel room yet, today is the perfect day to do it! As of 12 am tomorrow evening, the block of unbooked rooms I have reserved at the Edgefield will be released to the public, so don’t delay!!! The rooms at the Best Western will be released on the 18th. If for whatever reason you have been unable to book rooms at either of these places, here is a list of a few other hotels in the area:

Holiday Inn Express- 877-410-6681 1000 NW Graham Rd., Troutdale, OR
Comfort Inn & Suites- 503-669-6500 477 NW Phoenix Drive, Troutdale, OR
Days Inn- 503-465-1515 24124 SE Stark St., Gresham, OR

I have not reserved rooms at these hotels, so I cannot be sure of the availability. Thanks, and good luck!

Hotel Availability Friday, May 22 2009

I thought I’d put up a post to let everyone know that the hotels in the Troutdale area are selling out of rooms FAST, so if you need to book a hotel room, I would advise doing so soon.  I set aside 20 rooms at the Best Western and 10 at the Edgefield (although without private bathrooms), but in order to get these rooms, you should call the hotels (the internet sites just say that all the rooms have been reserved).  The phone number for the Best Western is: 503-491-9700 or toll-free, 866-312-0073.  The phone number for the Edgefield is: (503) 669-8610 or toll-free, (800) 669-8610.  Just mention that you would like to book one of the rooms held for the wedding of Stuart Thompson and Meaghan Brown.  As of right now, there are still several rooms available, but I have a feeling they’ll be going fast!

Directions to the wedding/reception Tuesday, Apr 28 2009

Since we have so many guests coming from out of town, I thought I’d post a map of how to get to our location (McMenamin’s Edgefield) from the Portland Airport.  I marked the Best Western in the map as well since I know we have several guests staying there.   If anyone is staying at another hotel, just send me an email or leave a comment on this post and I’d be happy to put together a map for you.

For those of you who are driving to the wedding itself, I would highly recommend car-pooling or even walking (the Best Western is only a hundred yards or so away), as there is not much parking on the McMenamin’s property.  There will also be a concert being held on the opposite side of the property that evening, so there will be a lot people competing for parking spaces.

Photographers! Thursday, Feb 5 2009

We have officially booked our photographers! They are a married couple that come as a pair, so they can cover both Stu and I getting ready. We’re going to do an engagement session with them in April, so I’ll be sure to post some of the proofs. They are very talented people, and I would highly recommend checking out their website: http://www.artistiquephotographie.com/index.php

An Official Date! Friday, Sep 26 2008

It is official!  Stu and I will be tying the knot on July 18, 2009 in Portland, Oregon.  We will be sending out Save-the-Date cards in the next week or so, and official invitations will be in the mail in a few months.  There is a link on the left hand side of this page to hotel and location information, for those interested.

About us Wednesday, Aug 27 2008

Stu and I met in the autumn of 2006 on Match.com.  We sent a few emails back and forth, but with Stu living in Portland and me living in Eugene, we didn’t have the opportunity to meet in person right away.  Fortunately, toward the end of October, my work sent me to Portland for a conference that was to last several days.  I arranged to go up a day early to meet Stu and have dinner.  We met at a lovely little french restaurant in downtown Portland (le Bouchon), where we had a perfect dinner and split a creme brulee.  We were having such a good time, we decided to go around the corner for bellinis at Touche, and, as they say, the rest is history!  We pretty much both knew on that first date that we wanted to be together in a more permananent sense.  A few weeks later, we decided to take a big leap and move in together, since our phone bills were getting outrageous.  I quit my job and moved up to Portland to be with Stu, and we haven’t looked back!
